It's been extreeeeeeemely long since I last blogged but I'm finally back with my review on NINJA BOWL! (I'll also resume attempts to complete my Ipoh and Bali posts. Sorry friends T_T)
Our afternoon started in Telok Ayer as we headed to Sarnies. Excited to finally taste the highly famed Tuna Tataki Salad for myself, I was super disappointed to hear that it was sold out. I was also slightly put off by the hostility but I'll save more talks on that for another time. We scrambled around Burpple in search for a healthy alternative and eventually decided to take a 10-minute walk over to NINJA BOWL.

Tucked away in a little corner with black doors and a not-so-obvious signboard, NINJA BOWL might easily go unnoticed in the day. It took us a little Googling to finally find the place after walking past it a couple of times.
Having taken over Department of Caffeine a few months back, this place still looks as good as ever - sporting perfect flat lay props like Cereal and Kinfolk Magazines, Baby breaths and black tables. All of me regretted not taking a flat lay shot because with all these props.... why the hell didn't I?!!?
Coconut Lemon Mint ($8)
Was personally intending on getting my own drink after we ate because there was a Dessert + Coffee/Tea special but ended up being too full plus this drink alone was huge! It really felt more like a jug.
Taste wise, like coconut water itself isn't refreshing enough, the addition lemon and mint made this drink all the better - not forgetting the huge chunks of coconut flesh I absolutely love munching on!

This wasn't even all of it! |
Poutine ($14)
Shoestring fries, melted cheese, beef chunks. This plate of fries didn't sound that enticing in the menu's description so we didn't expect much but WOW.
We were both really wow-ed by this one and personally, my favourite dish out of the lot! The fries were dolloped in beef sauce, the beef chunks were so soft and easy to tear apart, the cheese, well let's just say cheese can never go wrong.
Nako + Ninja Rice ($16)
Fel had this and since I just tightened my braces, it wasn't easy for me to reach a verdict for this beef although it did taste (and look) good.
At $14 (without rice), I'd say that the portion was well worth the price. For one, they were really generous with the beef. I also expected the vegetable on the side to be plain and simple but the baby corn and tomatoes were quite well-seasoned and tasted really good, not forgetting the perfect egg porn *drools*
Tsukiji ($16) I went without the base because I'm a small eater.
No biasedness intended but I enjoyed my bowl a lot more than I enjoyed Fel's and the credit goes to the pickled cucumbers! If you love pickled vegetables like Achar, I swear you will love this. I admit, I was distracted by the cucumbers but after regaining my senses, I ate the tuna and my verdict:
the tuna tataki was light, fresh and definitely satisfied my Tuna Tataki Salad craving.
Some might find this a tad bit too bland but if you prefer lighter flavours like I do, I'm sure you'll really enjoy this.
I was especially compelled to take a shot of these Mt. Fuji table numbers because it's just SO CUTE! Also pretty apt since they're called Ninja Bowl.
Final Verdict
Both Fel & I really enjoyed our time at NINJA BOWL. With its cozy atmosphere and our leftover fries, we spent a great deal of time comfortably chatting and laughing away. The food in overall was delectable with the only downside being slightly too costly for "some vegetables".
I'd definitely make time to pop by again when I'm feeling more generous!
