Couldn’t snap a shot at Kyoto’s Bamboo Forest so I’ll make do with the one at W Hotel & Resort!
Today began as I took a cab down to Seminyak to visit Potato Head Beach Club after snapping some shots at W Hotel’s Bamboo Forest. These 2 hotels weren’t too far away from each other so we alighted at W Hotel and walked over to PHBC.

PHBC was literally a beach club with booming music and tons of people hanging around sun-tanning on the grass, drinking in the pool or having lunch at tables.
Despite the crowd, we easily clinched a seat at a sharing table and ordered for ourselves some food and drinks. We spent a total of IDR 540k and even though it was pretty pricey, I would most definitely return because everything – food, drinks, ambiance – about this place felt perfect.
I loved my Soft Shell Crab Slider and even though it was under the “Medium Snacks” section, it was a lot more filling than I expected it to be!
Le’s Wagyu Beef Burger (Large Snack) was surprisingly smaller but still filling thanks to the fries on the side. The fries were freshly cut potatoes and the wagyu beef was soft and cooked to medium by default allowing the needed tenderness to satisfy our taste buds.
Koko loco was the only coconut juice I’ve enjoyed so far here in Bali because most of the others were either not sweet enough or served at room temperature. This, on the other hand, was served cold and lime infused! Super refreshing.
Also, for those of you who are wondering if PHBC Bali is related to Singapore’s Potato Head Folks at Chinatown, well it is! I was pleasantly surprised to see the same Three Buns menu upon entering the beach club and felt a tinge of homely familiarity that struck my heart a lil.

Not sure if the beach is dirty or the sand is just naturally grey-ish, hmm. |
We decided to venture back down to Kuta via foot and factor in some shopping after lunch but much to our dismay, we ended up walking through dirt roads and constructions instead of rows of shops (my mistake for thinking it would be like Boracay). I guess I expected too much so in the end, we took a cab to Legian Beach and took a long stroll along the beach back to our hotel. We picked some seashells, took tons of photos and were fascinated by all the surfers, or rather just people trying to learn surfing.

I could probably consider picking 1 out of the countless photos I took of the sea Mission Impossible... |
Back at the hotel, we met up with my parents and grandparents and decided to head to Sky Garden for their super cheap buffet dinner. Because my grandparents weren’t able to walk far, we requested for the hotel to call a cab for us and it was then that I realize that there was such a thing as minimum payment for called cabs! The meter only wrote 7500 but we had to pay 30k.
When we got to Sky Garden, a random dude that wasn’t in any kind of uniform started ruffling through our bags for security check and even told me that I have to put my camera in a locker. We started feeling skeptical about this place because even security guards aren’t allowed to put their hands into our bags! Both my mum and I agreed that we should just go someplace else for dinner. My camera is waaay too precious to sacrifice for just meals so please, if you’re thinking of going to Sky Garden for dinner, don’t bring your camera.
Update: we had no idea it was a club.... I just wanted to eat T_T
Jl. Legian was a busy street so it didn’t take us long to finally settle down at Made’s Warung. I had for myself a plate of Half Nasi Goreng & Half Gado-gado and as much as I would like to raaave about it like all the review on tripadvisor, I would just say that it was pretty mediocre and slightly costly. A tasty plate of Nasi Goreng can easily be found here in Bali at a cheaper price.
With dinner done, our parents took a cab back with my grandparents while Le and I took a walk back to the hotel. We got ourselves an Angry Bird special McDonald’s ice cream on the way back and it tasted surprisingly good! My vanilla cone dipped in strawberry and his bubble gum McFlurry only added up to ~IDR 20k.
Tomorrow will be an early day because we’ll be attempting to get up at 6AM for some surfing!
xx.
