Today was a tiring day, gosh. We initially wanted to wake up early for breakfast with everyone but ended up sleeping till 10AM. We had toast that the host left for us before leaving the hostel at about 11ish.
To avoid last minute screw ups, we decided to make the bus terminal our first destination. Not exactly far off from where we stay, we walked over and along the way saw many nice cafes and eateries. We got the tickets to Chiang Mai for 129B ea and headed for lunch. Famished as we were, we settled for this very authentic looking stall right beside the bus terminal.
I have no idea what this is really called because the translation was unintentionally extremely funny – Pork Noodle Falls. It was really tasty and I came to a conclusion that everything here tastes good if I were to compare it to the thai food available in SG.
After lunch, we decided to walk to Central Plaza - the worst decision ever. It was a gruelling 1 hour walk amidst hardware shops and uneven roads. The only upside was this super cute guy I saw at a 7-11. He seemed like a mix of Thai, Caucasian and Korean. I so wanted to pack him home to SG HAHA.
Upon finally reaching our destination, we sought for some respite in a cup of cold refreshing JUICE at Fruiturday. It was a lovely place but we were disappointed. I got the passion fruit juice which turned out to be a sour mess. Their watermelon shake was pretty alright but this place, in general, was overpriced. 65B for a sour mess and 49B for a watermelon shake.
Needless to say, we took a cab back to our hostel. The cabs here require an extra 20B to pay by metre…. Probably the only way they earn? We decided to just go for the metre and the price turned out to be exactly the same after adding the extra 20B.
Back at the hostel, we decided to change our plans a lil and head up to Chivit Thamma Da Coffee House, a place along Maekok River, instead. It was an extremely gorgeous Coffee House perfectly fitted along the river amongst greeneries. I got the Chivit Thamma Da Frappe, Marcus the Chivit Thamma Da Coffee, Kay Wei the White Chocolate Frappe and shared a slice of cake (Banoffee – cream, banana and dark chocolate drizzled with caramel sauce) recommended by the staff.
The Chivit Thamma Da Coffee/Frappe was good but not fantastic while the White Chocolate Frappe was way too sweet. The Banoffee, was delicious! I love how despite the location and quality of food, we only had to pay 380B (~SGD15).
We took a long walk across the highway back to the city until we saw the King Mengrai Monument. Just like how we did when we headed up, we travelled on a song thaew back to the Clock Tower. It felt so much better than taking a taxi!
Dinner was, again, at a street side stall. We just never seem to have the feels for any restaurants and in all honestly, I have no regrets on that. We had chicken noodle soup and like I’ve said before, it’ll never disappoint. The chicken was so tender! On a side note, if you hate bean sprouts, I suggest you learn how to tell them to not put any in. Thais seem to really love throwing tons of em in their dishes. It was in all of the dishes we’ve had so far!
To end off our 20k steps day (yes we walked more than 20k steps today!), we had THAI MASSAGE! We sadly, couldn’t find any near our hostel but thankfully, situating near the clock tower gave it the benefit of being at most a 10 minute walk from most things within the city. We only had to pay 200B for a 60 minute full body massage (usually ~250B in BKK).
Feeling refreshed and relaxed from the massage, we took a stroll back to the hotel and here I am now, typing away. It was a long day which didn’t exactly start out right but I’m glad everything worked out in the end. We also realised that most shops were closed by 7PM! Lots of authenthic thai store were closed by then only leaving us with the stalls.
We have to be up early tomorrow for the tour my AirBNB host introduced to us so wish us luck on beating the snooze! Xx.
